What will I do with that time that isn't tied to living generation?

AI to the rescue!

According to the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, God wants his followers to spend their time wisely by prioritizing things that will strengthen their relationship with him and help build his kingdom. This focus on spiritual growth and service helps an individual find balance with other worthy pursuits like work, family, and personal development. Core activities to prioritize:

  • Draw near to God: Leaders teach that making time for the Lord is key to spiritual strength. This includes consistent, sincere prayer, diligent scripture study, and fasting.
  • Keep the commandments: Following God's commandments is a way to show love and devotion to him and helps align a person's life with his will.
  • Serve others: Christ spent his life serving others, and Church members are encouraged to follow his example. This can involve both formal Church service and informal acts of kindness to lift others.
  • Attend the temple: For endowed members, the temple is a place of sacred worship and revelation, where they can draw closer to the Savior.
  • Share the gospel: Members are encouraged to find ways to share their beliefs with others, whether through conversations or inviting others to learn more about the gospel.

Prioritizing the eternal over the temporary:

  • "Seek ye first the kingdom of God": A common analogy used in the Church involves filling a jar with large rocks (representing things God has asked you to prioritize) first, and then filling the remaining spaces with sand (representing other good but less important activities). This teaches that when you put God's work first, there will be enough time for other things.
  • Avoiding idleness: The scriptures teach against idleness, emphasizing that life is a time to prepare to meet God by doing his work and being productive.

Finding balance and purpose:

  • Balance work, recreation, and rest: While diligence is important, a balanced life is also key. Members are taught to find the proper balance between work, rest, and wholesome recreation.
  • Use real intent: With so many available choices and potential distractions, members are encouraged to live with purpose and act with "real intent," committing to things that will help them become the person they want to be.
  • Develop skills and talents: Using free time to develop new talents, learn new things, and work toward "a finished product" is also seen as a worthy use of time.
