Looking at Ocean-going Sailboats for the Future

Macgregor 25

I have a property by a lake (Not anymore as of late April 2024) and I parked my trailer sailboat (a 1984 Macgregor 25) on it. [Now the sailboat is parked next to Mere Cottage.] I sleep in my boat at night between workdays. I have a home and family that I live with a few hours off on the weekends.

As I type this, it really does look less appealing than it works out to be. My weekly time-away seems to serve my beloved Lisa (who I married in 1988) very well.

I have a twin bed-frame and memory foam mattress placed transversely in the main part of the cabin, which although it has served for some years, makes the bulk of the boat practically unusable. I have been thinking that I might take out the existing head and enclosure (which I don't use) and see if my mattress (and me) will fit in the v-berth. Just from looking at the floor plan I have, it looks like it could fit.

If I could make that change, that would buy back the table and seats, making the whole situation a bit more livable. As of 20240221, I have made the change, the head enclosure is gone (I actually used the old bulkhead to make a platform for the mattress foot) and I have slept in the V-berth space, with the mattress hugging the starboard hull. This leaves a big storage space toward the bow (where most of the canvas items are stuffed) and a nice little area on the starboard end of the v-berth to toss the e-reader, my glasses, and the ubiquitous smartphone. A few days later, I decided to switch to having my head against the bulkhead and that has worked infinitely better.

I have been moving the boat from place to place, so I have never put up the mast, which looks to be something more than 25ft tall from the deck, likely about 30 feet from ground level when trailered. That would be a fine height for HamRadio antennas!

The Big Fire

There was a fire at least close to the Ditch during the last week of February 2024. Don't yet know the fate of the boat.

Raising the Mast

Keto Stuff

Popcorn (better carb) and Peanuts (fat/protein) combination is supposed to work well if you don't go overboard.

Plenty of low-carb vegetable options include arugula, asparagus, green olives, cucumber, bell peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, mushrooms, spinach, and tomatoes. Those vegetables provide other benefits like reducing the risk of certain chronic diseases, containing antioxidants, and providing filling fiber.

Good food to get canned:

Pumpkin puree Chickpeas (good to do daily?!) - drink the juice as well. Sardines (better than tuna and salmon) Tomatoes (juice is really good) Artichoke hearts Canned Meat - some say avoid it except in winter (Corned beef hash, canned chicken, Corned beef) Canned Potatoes Chili (no beans)

Handling the ditch

Ramps might be the cheapest way to handle this. In the end, I am just parking the car on the side of the street and walking in.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LQ8F1J1/ - (72“ X 15” X 2.25“ 6800 LBS pair - $268) - I bought these and brought to the site but haven't put them out yet

However, there is a plot of land outside of Fritch that I can get for around $2000 that would justify either hanging onto the boat or taking this RV. The boat is extremely low-cost comparatively and it looks like there is free showers and bathrooms out at Lake Meredith (true!). This could work very well if the showers are available in the winter (like they were at Oasis) (recent new stories say that the showers are available in the winter). This could work very well! Only if we can find a lot in section 3 or 4 which may like RVs?.

It ended up being Unit 3 lot 8 and I will pay $3000 for it. I need to let my apartment in Amarillo go (informed landlord on 12/7).

12/18 - there are four showers available, even in the wintertime, at the Sanford-Yake campground. There are an additional four showers at the Fritch Fortress campground that are open during the season, so we should be very good for showering!

What to call the new place? Fritch Ditch (or Fritch Flop)
