In relation to this, I define home as the family together and its constituent individuals.

I am an old-school HomeEconomist and I manifest that most stridently as a person who would much rather invest in durable goods and skills than in something tricky like the stock market or precious metals.

While most HomeEconomists are female, my "end" of the field is a bit more masculine toward cheap (hopefully more like "inexpensive") retrofits on existing home production systems. Perfect for the elderly pensioners that my wife and I are soon to become!
